The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has recently updated their Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) across the State, including the Town of Milton. As a result, some residents are being notified by their banks or insurers that their properties are now located in a “flood zone” (where they were not before) and that they are required to carry flood insurance. Many residents are not quite sure why this is happening or what they can do (if anything) to be removed from the designated flood area.
As a helpful tool for residents, we have compiled some very useful information about the FIRM maps as well as information on how to contest a flood zone designation, and linked it to the Town of Milton – Engineering Department website. We trust you will find this information useful with your resolution of your FIRM issue.
