Fit for Life Walk
Saturday, September 30th, 9 am
Save the date!
Join us on Saturday, Sept. 30th , at 9 a.m., at the Milton Council on Aging (COA) for our annual Fit For Life Walk. Organized by Milton Boot Camp and co-chaired by Elliott Physical Therapy, the funds raised will support the health and wellness programs, transportation, and events offered at the COA.
Why we walk
More than 2,800 Milton residents (or 33% of the population age 60 and older) have engaged with the COA through activities and programming, requests for referrals or assistance with Medicare, MassHealth or other social service assistance, and/or participation in the transportation program.
This represents a 200% increase in the number of older adults using the Milton COA since fiscal year 2020! And this number is expected to grow in line with U.S. population projections – so it’s critical the Milton COA has the funding needed to maintain and grow its programming and services to keep pace with the demand.
How we’ll use the walk’s proceeds
Funds raised will be used to:
Maintain and upgrade transportation vehicles: The COA provided nearly 4,000 rides in fiscal year 2023, and still could not respond to all requests! Transportation service is used for medical appointments, grocery shopping, social activities, field trips and participation in other COA programs.
Combat social isolation and keep people connected: Previous walks helped to refurbish the Game Room, purchase patio furniture, and underwrite the costs associated with our social and entertainment programs.
Underwrite health, wellness and education classes: These programs help Milton residents stay healthy, keep moving and support continued engagement in the community. Classes range from strength training, circuit training and hiking, to history, psychology and Spanish classes, to field trips, and more.
Ask us about our “Birds, Butterflies & Bees”, “Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll” and "Navigating the Digital Age" classes!
Please support the Friends of the Milton Council on Aging by registering for the walk (online HERE or in person at the COA). Registration Fee: $20.
Additional support through donations, gift cards, gift baskets, or tickets for the raffle, or sponsoring the coffee, donuts, or water table at the event would be very much appreciated. Call, or stop by, for information on how to donate.
