SELECTMEN’S MEETING   TUESDAY, MAY 13, 2008 6:00 P.M.

In attendance:  Kathryn A. Fagan, John M. Shields, Kathryn A. Fagan, Kevin J. Mearn, Town Administrator, Paula Rizzi, Executive Secretary

1.         The Chairman called the meeting to order.

2.         The Board discussed whether there is a need for a legislative committee to discuss the effects of Proposition 2 ? on the Town. The Town Administrator will speak to Town Counsel John Flynn, the present chair of the Town Moderator appointed Legislative Committee, to see if he wants to consider convening a meeting to discuss this issue.

3.         The Board discussed the progress being made by the Governor Stoughton Trust Land Committee and asked the Town Administrator to invite Town Planner Bill Clark to its next meeting for an update.

4.         The Board discussed the one bid received for the parking lot at 131 Eliot Street next to the MBTA station.  Because the bid was well below the asking price, the Board considered rebidding.

            John M. Shields moved, Marion V. McEttrick seconded and the Board voted unanimously to rebid for the purchase of the Town-owned parcel of land located at Central Avenue adjacent to the MBTA Red Line Central Avenue stop.

5.         John M. Shields moved, Marion V. McEttrick seconded and the Board voted unanimously to accept a check in the amount of $100 from the Milton PM Club for the Milton Healthy Communities initiative.

6.         The Board reviewed upcoming articles for Town Meeting and during a discussion on free cash the Board discussed the police private detail payment process and how it encourages outstanding balances.  After further discussion, John M. Shields moved, Marion V. McEttrick seconded and the Board voted unanimously to offer police detail vendors a 2% discount if they pay their outstanding invoices by June 15 (two weeks before the end of the fiscal year).

7.         Town Meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
