Guidelines for Recycling

Single Stream Recycling is now available in Milton!

Beginning January 24th, 2011, the Town of Milton will be starting a Single Stream recycling pilot program with Waste Management, the Town's municipal solid waste and recycling vendor.

An informational flyer can be viewed HERE, and will be mailed to every household in Milton.

Highlights of Single Stream recycling include:

- No Sorting of recyclables necessary.  All recyclables can be combined into one or more container.

- Cardboard no longer has to be reduced to 3' x 3' bundles

- You may continue using your existing recycle bins, or you may use up to a 32-gallon standard trash barrel for recyclables.  Barrels should be clearly marked "Recycling".  Free "Single Stream Recycling" stickers for barrels are now available at Town Hall and at the DPW Yard.

- The same types of recyclables are still being collected.  Recyclables should still be cleaned as usual.  But no sorting is required!

Benefits of Single Stream Recycling

- Ease and convenience for residents

- Neater, cleaner streets on trash day

- Single stream programs typically increase recycling participation, thus reducing overall trash tonnage generated.

The old curbside recycling guidelines can be found HERE.
