Important Notice
As of July 2, 2008 the Engineering department has moved to the DPW Yard at 629 Randolph Ave
SATURDAY, MAY 17: DPW OPEN HOUSE--DON'T MISS IT THIS YEAR!

Magic, cotton candy, popcorn, hot dogs? All this and more can be had at the annual Milton DPW Open House on Saturday, May 17 from 10-1pm at the DPW Yard (629 Randolph Avenue).  The DPW Open House celebrates National Public Works Week, drawing attention to the thousands of men and women who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works, including those who work in Milton.

The Open House gives Milton residents a chance to get an up-close look at what the Milton DPW does everydat and how they do it.  Milton-ites can meet the DPW staff, and a great way for the DPW staff to meet with residents and get feedback on issues that residents think are important.  They can learn about the many responsibilities of the Milton DPW (road maintenance, drinking water delivery, stormwater and sewage disposal, engineering services, trash & recycling pickups, traffic management and more…) while their children climb up on large DPW trucks and honk the big horns.

This year's Open House features BJ Hickman who will perform a recycling magic show for children as well as a used bike sale run by the Milton Bicycle Advisory Committee.  Proceeds from the sale will be used to promote safe cycling in Milton.  (Donations of bikes should be brought to Cunningham Park on Friday, May 16 from 4-6:30pm or to the DPW Yard on Saturday morning May 17 from 8:30-10:00am.  Bike committee members and Dave's Bike Infirmary will evaluate all bikes, noting any repairs that might need to be made and the approximate repair price, if needed. Most bikes sell in the range of $10 -$50. Cash payment is preferred.)

The bike sale will run from 10-4:00pm on Saturday and 1-4pm on Sunday, May 18 at the DPW Yard.

A highlight of this year’s Open House will be the presentation of the fifth annual “Larry DeCelle Friend of DPW Award”, given to an individual or organization whose actions exemplify outstanding community service in the public works arena.  This year’s awardee is Barbara Plonski, Science Curriculum Department Head for Milton public schools.  Ms. Plonski has been a tireless advocate for street tree planting in Milton, and the DPW would like to recognize her efforts on behalf of the town.

For questions on Open House, please call Reva Levin, DPW Program Manager, at (617) 898-4871.

Due to Memorial Day celebrated on Monday May 26, all curbside pickups will be delayed one-day during that week.

Upcoming curbside yard waste collections are May 5-9, May 19-23, June 2-6, and June 16-20.
