Mutt Mitt Stations Come to Milton!
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's one of Milton's newly installed mutt mutt stations.
They can be found at the main entrance to Turner's Pond, and at Kelley Field , Andrews Park, and along a section of Pine Tree Brook.
The Town hopes that the stations will encourage residents to pick up after their dogs. Besides being an eyesore, bad smelling, and quite unpleasant to stumble upon, dog waste that is left on the ground is often pushed by stormwater (rainfall or snow-melt) into local brooks and streams. The pet waste adds to water pollution; it can carry viruses and bacteria and increase the growth of damaging algae and aquatic weeds in our local waters.
The mutt mitts are part of the DPW's stormwater management campaign. In conjunction with mutt mitt installations, during the next two months residents will receive a stormwater management insert in their water and sewer billings.
Clean water is important to all of us and it's up to all of us to make it happen!
Mutt mitt stations can be found in the following areas: Andrews Park, Kelly Field, Turner's Pond, and will soon be installed along Pine Tree Brook between Parkway Crescent and Winthrop Streets.
P.S. The baskets on the new mutt mitt stations are for dog waste only. When they are in parks, residents are asked to throw waste other than 'dog poop' in the large trash cans on site. This way, the mutt mitt baskets can be used for their intended purpose. Thanks.
