Household Hazardous Collections
2006 HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION DAY
HELD ON APRIL 29, 2006

On Saturday, April 29, 2006, the Milton Department of Public Works (DPW) held its annual Household Hazardous Waste  (HHW) Collection Day for Milton residents fat the DPW Yard (629 Randolph Avenue).  Except for tires ($3 each) and used waste oil and antifreeze ($1 per gallon) the collection was free for Milton residents.

The next HHW Day will be scheduled for spring, 2007. When the date is finalized, it will be advertised in the local papers and on this website.

The most popular items collected on April 29, 2006 were:

Oil paint and oil-paint sludge (605 gallons)
Pesticides (330 gallons)
Resins & adhesives (385 gallons)
Aerosol cans (220 gallons)

How to dispose of latex paint...

Latex is not a hazardous because it is a water-based product. If you have latex paint or latex driveway sealer that is still in liquid form, remove the lid and add kitty litter or a product like Speedi Dri to absorb the liquid in the can. Once it turns to a solid, place the lid back on and dispose of the can in the regular trash. You can also use a commercial paint hardener purchased from local hardware stores. Latex paint is not accepted at household hazardous waste events.

The following items are accepted on HHW Day:

Adhesives and glues
Aerosol cans
Engine degreaser, brake and transmission fluid
Hobby and art supplies
Household cleaners and spot removers
Non-alkaline batteries (these are found in camcorders, cordless power tools, cordless phones and laptop computers).
Oil-based paints
Photo chemicals and chemistry sets
Poisons, insecticides, pesticides, and weed killers
Solvents and varnishes
Swimming pool chemicals
Waste fuels (kerosene, gasoline)
Wood preservatives and fiberglass residue

The following items are not accepted on HHW Day:

Latex paint
Alkaline batteries such as AA, D, etc. (These can be placed in your trash)
Mercury-containing items (collected at the Recycling Center the first Saturday of each month)
Prescription medicine or syringes (These should be returned where they were purchased)
Commercial or industrial waste
Fluorescent bulbs (collected at the Recycling Center the first Saturday of each month)
