Here are some simple steps to introduce natural landscaping to your home's landscape or garden:
Have your soil tested to make sure fertilizers are needed and that your soil is properly balanced: you may not need as much fertilizer as you think.
If you do use fertilizers, use organic, no phosphate, slow-release fertilizers, and use sparingly. These are available locally.
Water only when soil is dry six inches down; water only one inch at a time.
Spread ¼” compost on your lawn as organic fertilizer each fall.
Leave grass clippings on as fertilizer.
Mow high (3-4 inches) and keep blades sharp.
Healthy soils yield plants that are disease resistant, negating the need for chemical pesticides.
