Fall Household Waste Event

MILTON RESIDENTS INVITED TO BRING HAZARDOUS WASTE TO DEDHAM EVENT

If you missed Milton's last Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection day in April, or just finished that long-promised garage clean-out, or are preparing to sell your house, you may be wondering what to do with your pile of old pesticides, aerosol cans, and oil-based paint cans. If so, you're in luck. Milton residents can attend the upcoming HHW collection day in Dedham on October 22 (9 – 11 a.m.) at no charge.

This is the second year of this reciprocal program. Because collecting household hazardous products is environmentally important but also a costly yearly budget item for municipalities, having a reciprocal program gives Milton residents an extra opportunity to correctly dispose of hazardous items.

In exchange for Milton participation in Dedham’s October 22 event, 20 Dedham residents will be invited to participate in Milton’s next HHW collection day in the Spring of 2006.

To participate in the October 22 Dedham HHW collection day, Milton residents must go the Milton DPW office at Town Hall by Wednesday, October 19 to get a free voucher.  Vouchers will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.  Along with the voucher, residents will be given a list of acceptable items to bring to the Dedham event, as well as directions to the DPW Yard in Dedham.

The DPW reminds residents that latex paint is not considered hazardous. While oil-based paint must be brought to the hazardous waste collection, latex-based paint can be disposed of in the trash.  However, the paint in the can must first be dried out (kitty litter is often used to absorb the liquid) and then the can may be placed in the trash.
